Working from life, all items were set up in my studio.
This piece depicts fresh lemons, strawberries and blackberries on a wooden charcuterie board with hidden drawer. A small knife placed on top, waiting to by used by its owner.
Memories of those sweet simple moments we share and enjoy.
Setting these items up in the studio I began with creating an atmosphere of depth with extreme light and shadow. drawing directly on the panel eliminated the set of transferring the image. Working in oils, I built the layers systematically working back to front.
I was in spired by the art of Caravaggio, specifically chiaroscuro. I am intrigued by how light plays such a role in mood interpretation.
